Little Tiles

Renovation and conversion of an old building apartment

private project | Planning, commissioning and construction supervision

2021

"Little Tiles" is a private project that gives a classic old building apartment a modern and charming character, where little treasures can always be discovered. The aim was to create an exciting, cleverly designed home that also offers maximum comfort. The most striking change was the relocation of the kitchen: instead of being located separately on the courtyard side, it was moved to the narrow room on the street side with a balcony. This enabled a direct transition to the spacious living area, which optimized and harmoniously brought together all of life in the apartment.

The heart of the apartment is the newly designed bathroom. What was previously considered an "eyesore" is now a stylish jewel of the apartment. The bathroom follows a clear color concept in which the complementary colors blue and orange play harmoniously with each other. The mosaic tiles give the room a playful touch and extend from the entrance to the shower wall. The old bathtub was replaced by a spacious, walk-in shower. Where there was previously a small sink, there is now a vanity unit with a large mirror perfectly integrated into the niche. The fresh blue tone creates an invigorating atmosphere, while the orange faucet creates a striking contrast and makes the bathroom a real eye-catcher.

The narrow kitchen has been used optimally - a continuous kitchen unit runs along the wall, opposite there are tall cupboards and a narrow bar that give the room a special structure. This makes the room that was once considered less functional a real highlight of the apartment.

The narrow hallway acts as a buffer zone between the rooms facing the street and the quieter rooms facing the courtyard. Here the ceiling was suspended to accommodate the new cables for the relocated kitchen. This also made it possible to integrate the electrical installation for the hallway. The rear part of the hallway was used to create a walk-in wardrobe with a sliding door made of mirrors. This visual extension not only provides more storage space, but also increases the feeling of space in the entire apartment.

All windows facing the inner courtyard have been renewed and freshly painted. The former kitchen has also been redesigned and now has a charming lilac-colored niche that creates a pleasant atmosphere. New floorboards, which were laid in place of the old linoleum, complete the harmonious overall picture, which invites you to work and relax.
